Your Major: Is it Passion or is it Money?
Throughout your life thus far, you have likely had to answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” And now, as you journey toward college, you will be confronted with a new question: “What is your major?” It is never too early to begin considering the answer to this question.
When it comes to your selected program of study – do you follow your dream and passion? Or, do you take a different approach and choose something that you know will help you prevail financially in life?
Choosing your major based on your passion could lead to life fulfillment. This path provides you a career doing something that you love and feel strongly about. You may never feel like you are working since you enjoy what you do. The downfall? Not all passions pay well.
Basing your major in college on a degree that will land you a job with a high payout can help you lead a comfortable life. Money can’t necessarily buy happiness, but it does help you stay content knowing you can afford to take care of yourself and your future family. Unfortunately, the area of work that you may find yourself in may not lead to a feeling of completeness.
It is up to you to determine which route you want your life to follow: obtaining a degree that will lead you to a full heart or one that will lead you to a hefty bank account. Keep in mind that the perfect job in either situation is never guaranteed. Weigh your pros and cons and remember that nothing is ever set in stone.
